Google Remove Breadcrumbs for Mobile Search Results WorldWide
On January 23, 2025, Google introduced an update to streamline how URLs appear in mobile search results, aiming for a cleaner and more user-friendly design.
What’s Changing?
- Breadcrumbs, part of the site hierarchy feature, will no longer be shown in mobile search results.
- Mobile searchers will now only see the domain name in the URL.
Why the Update?
Google found that breadcrumbs often get cut off on smaller screens, making them less effective for mobile users.
Impact on Desktop Results
- Breadcrumbs will still appear in desktop search results.
- The desktop URL display will continue to show the domain and breadcrumb structure.
For Webmasters:
- If you’re using breadcrumb markup, there’s no action required.
- Breadcrumb markup remains supported for desktop search results and is still trackable via the Search Console Breadcrumb Report and the Rich Results Test.
This update is designed to make mobile search results more intuitive, helping users quickly find what they need.
